It won’t be news to know that celebrities live more complicated lives than regular people. After hitting success, some celebrities try to have an almost normal life but their past just keeps coming for them. The media on its part derives pleasure digging up things about popular people, and sometimes these things either makes the celeb more popular of tarnishes their image. But no matter how wrong a past is, it can be made right by good works. The people on this list are popular actors and actresses whose parents committed devious crimes and as such have been tagged ‘criminals’ by the law. Now, the good thing is, some of these famous people rose above the offensive crimes committed by their parents and today have become successful professionals who are mentors to millions of people world-wide, while a few others took after their parent and are now worse than them.
1. Lindsay Lohan
Just when popular American actress, Lindsay Lohan was about launching her young career, her father, Michael, was jailed for criminal contempt of court while being investigated for insider trading. He spent three years in jail and after his release was on a five-year probation which he violated by flying to Napa to visit Lindsay. This act landed him another one year in jail and after his release he was still charged of attempted assault charges, a DUI charge, failure to pay, and domestic violence. Lindsay had a pretty bad role model in her father and he contributed immensely in making her a not-so-good role model to young actresses.
2. Lily Allen
The English singer, songwriter, actress, and television presenter, Lilly Allen, had her life going on well until her father, Keith Allen, was sent to prison for stealing a car. Prior to Lily’s birth, her father had an affair with a shop assistant which resulted to a child, called Kevin. While in prison, Lily and her one year older step-brother visited their father regularly, encouraging him to live a better life after his release.
3. Leighton Meester
When Leighton Meester was still a fetus, her mother Constance was sentenced to ten years in prison for drug smuggling. The Gossip Girl star’s mother and father allegedly smuggled 1,200 pounds of marijuana from Jamaica to the United States, and while they payed the price for their crime, Leighton stayed with her grandparents from as young as three months old.
4. Dylan McDermott
Dylan’s case is so pathetic. In 1967, his step father, John Sponza, murdered his mother but denied it since there was no witness. The death of Dylan’s mother was seen as an accidental shooting for over four decades until 2012, when the police established evidence that she was murdered by her husband. But before the police could arrest him, they found his lifeless body in the trunk of a car.
5. Tobey Maguire
Tobey Maguire, the innocent faced actor, popularly known as Peter Parker was born by an amateur robber. His father allegedly robbed a bank close to his house in broad daylight without wearing a mask. He was arrested and sentenced to a two-year jail term.

6. Jackie Chan
Who would ever think that Jackie Chan grew up with parents who had a wild life? No one is above committing a crime. Jackie’s father Charles Chan was a Secret Agent for the Nationalists and received a few bullets from Communist assassins. His mother, Lee-Lee after being widowed by her previous husband ventured into the business of opium. She was caught by Charles Chan who empathized with her and set her free. Lee-Lee and Charles became good friends and eventually got married. All these happened years before the legend was born, but bad news still has a way of getting to curious ears.
7. Kellie Pickler
Country singer Keller was raised by alcoholic and incarcerated parents. Kellie’s mother, Cynthia Morton, had a habit of writing bad checks and once tried to pass a forged prescription for Valium while she was working at Walmart. Kellie’s father’s criminal records include prison sentences for armed robbery, aggravated assault, and battery.
8. Hayden Panettiere
Popular for her outstanding role in the series “Heroes,” Hayden has had a fair share of her father’s ill behavior. In 2008, he was charged with battery after he supposedly assaulted his wife while under the influence of alcohol. He was charged and placed on probation for two years and Hayden claimed the incident was exaggerated by a sheriff who wanted to be popular.
9. Demi Moore
For Demi Moore, her parents separated even before her birth. She was raised by a drunkard step father who heavily influenced her mother into drinking. Demi’s mother later had the courage to leave her husband and he ended up committing suicide there after.
10. Woody Harrelson
Woody Harrelson’s father, Charles, had a big gambling problem and was also a freelance hit-man. His first job was to take out a carpet salesman, Alan Harry Berg. Charles was tried and acquitted for the killing and in that same year, he was tried for the murder-for-hire killing of Sam Degelia, Jr. In 1973, he was retried and sentenced to 15 years in prison but was released after five years due to his “good behavior”. But the serial killer went on and was arrested 3 years later for killing Federal Judge John H. Wood Jr. Charles was finally sentenced to life imprisonment and he died in prison in 2007.
