Her father is a well-known Republican politician and the former governor of Arkansas; while her mother was the second first lady of Arkansas during her husband’s term as governor. While she was growing up, Sarah attended Little Rock Central High School; after which she enrolled at the Ouachita Baptist University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree. Coming from a politically grounded family, Sarah also held several political posts such as the student government president while at the university. She graduated in 2004, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in political science and a minor in mass communications.
Soon after her graduation, Sarah Huckabee Sanders moved to Washington D.C. where she began her career as a regional liaison for congressional affairs at the Department of Education in 2004. Similarly, she also worked as a field coordinator for President George Bush’s re-election campaign in Ohio the same year. Prior to that, she was a field coordinator for her father’s re-election campaign as Arkansas governor in 2002. Later on, along with her husband, she founded a political consulting firm called Second Street Strategies.
Sarah worked for both national and federal office campaigns in Arkansas; she also served as the vice president of Tsamoutales Strategies. She became the national political director for her father’s presidential campaign in 2008, and in 2012, she served as a senior adviser to Tim Pawlenty. Later on, she championed the campaign that led to the election of US Senator Tom Cotton in 2014.
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Huckabee was made the senior adviser for Trump’s campaign. After President Donald Trump was elected, Huckabee got appointed as deputy White House Press Secretary. Working with Sean Spicer, she defended decisions made in Trump’s administration including the dismissal of former FBI director James Comey among others. However, Sean Spicer left his post as the press secretary amid controversies and Sarah was elevated to fill that position on July 26, 2017.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been working as the White House Press Secretary from 2017 to date. Additionally, Huckabee was named to Times Magazine’s List of 40 under 40 Politicians in 2010.
Family – Husband and Children
Sarah came from a family where politics is everything and they are well grounded in it. Her father Michael is a well-known political juggernaut; a former Arkansas governor, a Christian Minister, as well as a Republican presidential candidate. Her mother, Janet McCain, on the other hand, is also a successful politician. She has two older siblings John Mark Huckabee who is a screenwriter and David Huckabee, a business person.
While Sarah has been successful since the inception of her career, she also got an amazing family. She is happily married to Bryan Sanders, a media consultant, and political strategist. Just like Sarah, Sanders is also an Arkansas native, he grew up in Mission Woods, Johnson County, and he attended Shawnee Mission East High School. Bryan also got his bachelor’s degree in Campaign Media from the Colby College in 2006.
The amazing couple first saw each other in 2008 during her father’s presidential campaign. At the time, Sarah was serving as one of the campaign directors while Sanders was hired as a media consultant for the campaign. Seeing the connection between them, the two lovebirds kicked off their relationship in the same year. The following year, Sanders proposed to Sarah at his family ranch located in Kansas; after which they tied the knot on May 25, 2010.
Their wedding was held at Cruz Bay, Saint John in the Virgin Islands. Together they have three children, a daughter Scarlett, born on May 10, 2012, as well as two sons, William, born on October 16, 2013, and George Huckabee Sanders, born on June 8, 2015. The amazing couple currently resides in Washington and there’s no sign of a breakup or marital issues yet.
What Happened to Her Eyes?
A quick glance at Sanders, you’d notice she often appears with smokey eyes. Surprisingly, Sander’s smokey eyes have kept the media abuzz for some time now. Just recently, a popular American comedian named Michelle Wolf pulled some stunts on the White House Press Secretary in one of her monologue at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. There she made some passes at Sarah and her work since she assumed the post of the press secretary saying that she burns facts and then uses the ashes to create a smokey eye.
After the showdown, Wolf’s comments raised several eyebrows and also got a great number of commentators slamming her for uttering such comments on the press secretary’s eyeshadow. As a matter of fact, the comments didn’t make Sarah appear less of who she is. She is still gorgeous, smart, and elegant, doing what she knows how to do best.
